It’s hot out there, at least on my side of the Earth. Don’t let high temperatures keep you indoors! If you can brave the heat, you’re bound to see something beautiful. So where are you going birding this weekend? Comment below on the excitement you have planned!
I’ll be ogling avifauna at Ocean City, Maryland. This is my first visit there but I’ve heard rave reviews. Corey expects to be visiting Jamaica Bay, which is probably where he’ll be most of the summer! Charlie, fresh off his monster anniversary edition of I and the Bird will be tasking a well-deserved rest in an air-conditioned hotel room in Washington DC… assuming some rarity doesn’t show up on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
Whether you’re heading to the beach or backyard, be sure to celebrate Sky Watch Friday…
If you’re at the seashore, look for pelagic species like this Black-legged Kittiwake (photo by Charlie)
So what do you feed them, to get them to fly overhead at exactly the right time? 🙂
Sardine sandwiches, Wren.
Just kidding! Actually I took this at a fishing port in Japan where Kits sometimes hang about: this one was ridiculously approachable! There are more photos of the same bird (and a few others) at http://10000birds.com/black-legged-kittiwake-japan.htm if you’re interested.
nice catch! hope you’ii can drop by at my corner too… Happy weekend!
Good SWF! So baiting your birds, huh?
I hope to make it to Lakeland this weekend – to visit some parks.
Nice weekend to you all! Cheers, Klaus
Well, what I know about birds you could fit in a teaspoon, but I’ll be birding in Marin County, California…
And I sure would like to know the name of that little rascal who is chirping up a storm right now in my yard — the sun is just getting ready to rise through a thick layer of smoke from all our forest fires..
Love your blog.
Best regards, Don
Birds and Skies… Tom will love this kind of shot
Unfortunately Tom is on bed rest today and for the first time you are stuck with me. I have my orders to visit as many as I can, and make sure the links are working and everyone is being good. I am sure you are all being good.
Tom and I thank you for Sky-Watching this week. I am sure that as soon as Tom’s heart beat settles down he will be back here and visiting.

Nice clear blue sky.
Saturday Morning I’ll be at Central Park for the last week of Audubon NYC’s Central Park Breeding Bird Census. On Sunday I’ll try to get to Prospect Park in Brooklyn to bird there for the first time.
Hallo from north Norway. Last week I saw all Sky Watch Friday photos and they were all great, and I hope to see them all this week too. I love to travel around the world this way.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful sky watch and have a great weekend!
Nice shoot have nice weekend
I am in beautiful sunny San Diego for a conference, but it is not all work. I am stealing some birding time. I went out with a local bird guide, getting 70 species and 3 lifers. Wahoo. The complete list is on my blog. Good birding!
I’m in lovely Peru!
Couldn’t go out this weekend though 🙁
But plan to go to Pantanos de Villa next weekend if possible, pretty nice wetlands not far from Lima.
Wish me luck, I plan to get some lifers!!
