November bears a strong resemblance to March in these parts, attired in the same shapeless, threadbare dress. Each of these months lacks distinction except that March heralds a steady upswing of hope while November descends into dreary despair, and I’m not just talking about the approaching holiday season! Perspective no doubt varies by your latitude. In any case, those of us in the leafless north must seize the sunny day. So what will you be doing this weekend? Any birding in your itinerary? Please share your plans in the comments below.
After my lovely long Caribbean weekend followed by a grueling two-day return home, I’m still getting my bearings. Who knows whether I’ll be able to get out enjoy what promises to be a sunny weekend. Any birding Corey does this weekend will be close to home, if at all. Considering that his son will either have been born or will be might close to arrival by this weekend, no birding seems like the most likely outcome. Charlie expects, as he says, to be mostly in labour too though I warrant he and Daisy will have profoundly different experiences!
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
A picturesque sunset enjoyed from the deck of Hotel Mocking Bird Hill in Jamaica
(Can you believe this photo was snapped by a camera phone? Go Droid!)
Hopefully my weekend will start tomorrow at Slimbridge with another of your visitors, Wilson’s phalarope, to complete my phalaropes this year; and maybe the penduline tits from a couple of days ago will reappear. Otherwise it’s going to rain and Saints will beat Brighton.
Lovely shot.
Lovely scene and pretty skywatch from Jamaica. Cool Droid shot.
What a great view and the sky is great too.

You really did a great job just using your phone camera. That turned out perfect to me. Loved it.
Impressive view, great shot.
Happy SFW weekend

If the rain finally passes on, I’ll be bird-banding with the Young Naturalist’s Club tomorrow. Hopefully we’ll get some cool sparrows in the nets.
I wish I was birding in Jamaica but I will settle for birding at my patch- Quebrada Gonzalez in Braulio Carrillo National Park, Costa Rica. This weekend, the rangers are promoting birding at this site and have invited local guides to show the birds to school kids. Should be interesting!
So I hail from a relatively northern climate, SE Wisconsin and although November could “descend into dreary despair” it does not have to be so. November brings excitement for me as I plan trips to the boreal forests of N. Wisconsin and N. Minnesota. I get excited this time of year with anticipation and wonder about what owls, finches and other irruptive species (Bohemian Waxwings) I will see on my winter birding excursions to the north woods. Although the finch forecast was grim for this year, some goodies are still starting to show up in N. MN and N. MI so I am hopeful. As for this weekend I already birded one of our local parks, Dorothy Carnes/Rose Lake in Fort Atkinson this eve and perhaps that was bit dreary bringing in the usual suspects of Downy, Hairy and Red-bellied Woodpeckers as well as Brown Creepers and White breasted Nuthatches. I always enjoy the Creepers. Also located a group of 8 Hooded Mergs on the water. Enjoyed the walk and may get out to another small park this weekend for a stroll and some lax birding along the Bark River. Have a great weekend.
I hope to go to the Jersey shore to see Common Eiders off of Cape May Point. Maybe other seabirds that Ida blew in.
