Think you’ll find birds at a place called Jacana Lodge?
The most famous November poem I know of was written a long time ago by Thomas Hood:
No sun – no moon!
No morn – no noon –
No dawn – no dusk – no proper time of day.
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member –
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds! –
November!
Thankfully, while Mr. Hood knew how to spin a verse, his phenology skills left much to be desired. You can find birds in November as long as you look in the right places.
This weekend, Corey and I will be exploring our respective corners of the Empire State for birds and political solutions for our misguided nation. How about you? Where will you be this weekend and will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
I’m unexpectedly off on a pelagic trip from Port Fairy in far western Victoria – not totally ideal weather but hopefully the wind will pick up a little tomorrow afternoon so that some Albatross appear!
