Weekends carry more emotional heft in most of our personal planners, probably because we save all of our fun for Friday through Sunday. Also, many see their weekdays governed almost exclusively by their business calendars. But then again, many of us use all seven days in a week for both work and recreation. Right now, I’m working 24-7 to keep hackers from tearing down this blog! Does that count as work or play? And does your weekend cover different days than Saturday and Sunday?
This weekend, I look forward to finding some fall migrants close to home. Corey will be scouring coastal Queens for avian oddities as well. How about you? Where will you be this weekend and will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
Keeping your eyes to the skies is easy when you’re looking at volcanoes
(Read about Duncan’s explorations of New Zealand’s volcano country)
Looking for sparrows in New Jersey (when I should be writing about sparrows in New Jersey).
We birdied in Mannheim, Germany for three days while my fiancé was there for work, then went to Interlaken, Switzerland. Best birds were a Goshawk chased by 8 Carrion Crows, a Green Woodpecker that I watched for twenty minutes while it was foraging and a White Crane that was 12 feet away from me. All of those were in Luisenpark. Today, on Harder Kulm, we saw a Black Woodpecker! Amazing!
The harshness of the volcano is captivating!!
The Big Sit! Oh yeah! http://www.birdingisfun.com/2012/10/the-big-sit-this-weekend.html
Thanks for battling the hackers. Is there any way that readers can help? As for birds this weekend, I hope to look for Unspotted Saw-whet Owl high up on Irazu Volcano.
Wow : this volcano is so huge, and so beautiful…
I went to Fort Totten in Queens today and I will go to Alley Pond Park tomorrow.
My weekend was last Tuesday, where I saw a Rufous Hummingbird in Delaware! I’m not sure when my next “weekend” will be!
