Do you love this time of year as much as I do? You may have to be a football-loving, bird-chasing father of schoolchildren to truly understand the attractions of early September in New York, but the season has something exciting for everyone. What do you love best about September?
I plan to explore rumors about the early, diminished local apple crop and expect to encounter countless American Goldfinches (even more than are flocking to my feeder) at the orchards. Corey will be scanning local flora for avifauna. How about you? Where will you be this weekend and will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
Common Cranes at dawn in Israel’s Hula Valley
(Find out how impressed Sharon is by migration there!)
I’ll be birding the coast near Lewes, DE for the weekend. Specifically Bombay Hook, Prime Hook, and Cape Henlopen.
I am not a bird person. None the less, living by the sea, birds mark our seasons. You can’t help but note which ones are here and when. It’s a mesmerizing picture.
I’m so excited, I have a raptor education class at Green Lane Park. I also bought my 7yr old, Louie, a jr birder kit & I’m so proud to be bringing him with me. theres a big lake there that has bin closed to swimming since the birds took it over many years ago so I think I may get the chance to lose my “worst birder ever” title 🙂
I will be on my first overnight pelagic trip sailing off on NJ coast. I hope to see some life birds including Skua and any type of Petral. I also hope not to get seasick 😉
In and around Galveston, Texas for challenging shorebirding. When I do it only once every few months, I feel like a beginner again.
