If you are living on the same planet the rest of us are, you surely need a diversion this weekend. Why not make World Sparrow Day, which we celebrate on March 20, an all-weekend affair? The Old World Passer sparrows are ubiquitous all around the world, typically where humans congregate most. Your challenge is to see how many you can rack up while still maintaining a healthy social distance. Sound like fun?

Hopefully a new pathway I found this morning near home – there are some very tasty looking horse paddocks which look just right for a Northern Wheatear or two. Who knows – maybe in a couple of weekends time a Whinchat or a Ring Ouzel as well? One thing this has done already is made me explore the local area more rather than head off in the car to known ‘birdy’ places.
