All around the world, birds are on the move. Birders celebrate May as one of the most exciting migratory months of the year. See what I mean by getting outside this weekend. What will you be doing this weekend and is birding on your itinerary? Share your plans in the comments below.
All of us here at 10,000 Birds International will be out and about looking at local migrants. Corey will probably still be recovering from his Queens Big Day!
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
You still have time to enjoy eerie skies over Lake Erie at the Biggest Week in American Birding…
I’ll be camping with my son and father at a Father & Sons campout near Banks, Idaho. I am kind of hoping for Pileated and White-headed Woodpeckers along with Pygmy Nuthatches.
Great photo, Mike. Looks like a very quiet and calm beach, red sand too which I have only seen where my Cousin lives in Devon. Thanks for posting, have a great weekend:)
A bird-free airplane day Saturday, then some low-key looking around Rome on Sunday before my Tuscany tour starts Monday morning. Should be fun, volcanoes permitting!
What a pretty beach. Living on the coast I always tend to forget that lakes have great beaches as well! Thanks for sharing.
I like to do birding might as well go visit a park I might see some birds there. Happy weekend!
SkywatchFriday
I revisited the site where I spotted the Yellow-crowned Night Heron (Astoria) and found (4) of them this time. 3 Adults and one immature… Foraging at the waters edge among some Laughing Gulls.
Good one.
I’ll be visiting a good friend of mine in COLOMBIA!!! We’re going to search for some Choco specialties around the Cerro Tatama NP!
I’m sure Erie lake is a place which could give you a wonderful time out there!
I’m heading west to Winston-Salem to try for some of those mountain migrants that I miss in the eastern Piedmont. Fingers crossed for Canada Warbler and Black-billed Cuckoo!
Central Park this weekend, I think.
Hi there!
I’m birding in my back yard in Long Beach, California. I’ve been watching the birds for the last three years – started innocently enough. Then I started buying seed, mixing, searching out blends to attract different birds – setting up feeders. Next step, and I feel it coming, is I’ll start taking trips to watch where and what others are watching!
Anyway, I get mostly common sparrow, hummingbirds, doves, occasional cockatiels and finches (about 4 pm daily) – and three that I’m not sure about – I think blue jay, mockingbird and one that essentially looks like a sparrow but has orange on its head, chest and tail (a beautiful burnt orange) and another, with greenish yellow on head, chest and tail. Does anyone know what these are?
love your site.
marta
Marta, your birds are most likely House Finches.
