Is autumn over already? My latitude seems to be suffering through an undesirable, though hardly unexpected early cold snap. What could be worse than winter weather without winter birds? Well, I’m sure you can think of some things but in any case, this situation is a drag. At least the weekend is on its way! How will you be spending this weekend and will you be watching birds? Let us know your plans in the comments below.
My mother, as far from a nature lover as you’re likely to find, will be visiting this weekend so I anticipate very little in the way of birding. Corey will, no doubt, bird enough for both of us as he strives to increase his Queens County list. Charlie will spend his weekend looking forward to Monday when he and Corey will, if they find a car, chase Ammodramus sparrows together. If only I could be there too…
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
Wake up early to greet the dawn as Charlie did when he was in Panama this past April!
Great photo.
Martha and I are going to the LBJ National Grasslands to bird,
I love this photo. I keep trying to take one like that in WV but can’t seem to get those nice layers like you have done. I enjoy reading your blog by the way.
I’m taking the kids of the Young Naturalist’s Club to Bald Head Island for a seining trip. There should be some good birds around too. Fingers crossed the weather doesn’t get too bad, though.
What a gorgeous shot! Dreamy, beautiful quality to it! I love it!
Enjoy!

What lovely soft hills! Have fun with your Mom. I’m headed to Madera Canyon again tomorrow, but I also have plenty of marvelous birds right here in my own backyard. I recently added bird #83 to the Sycamore Canyon bird list with a black-throated gray warbler that flew right into my back yard and landed on our mesquite tree!
Wow, fantasic colors! Great composition! I love mountains in layers like that. I love your shot
Wow, beautiful how you did that!
Great shot ! ! !

We’ll be checking out the wetlands near our home, and probably the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Although their scarecrow display sort of creeps me out – actually, I think I’ll set my next Bob White Birder Murder mystery at the scarecrow display….
Nice foggy sunrise, beautiful indeed.
My Bangkok Through My Eyes!

I have been going to Hamlin beach, Canadian Geese everywhere. Very peaceful not many visitors. Saw a type of gull that was vey large and looked like an eagle–beautiful bird.
