Summertime is still hanging on in the Northern Hemisphere, even in some of our uppermost latitudes. Birds are on the move, filtering through green, leafy trees. Get out there and see them!
I’m considering my options for this weekend, as I don’t want to waste such a special time of year. Corey, as is his wont, will be ON A BOAT (cue the SNL classic) on Sunday. How about you? Where will you be this weekend and will you be birding? Share your plans in the comments below.
Whatever your plans this weekend, make time to enjoy SkyWatch Friday. Also be sure to come back Monday to share your best bird of the weekend!
Can you even imagine seeing South Africa’s Cape Wildflower Spectacle in person?
(Adam Riley’s epic photos are the next best thing to being there!)
This weekend my birding will consist of birding in my backyard. I have to watch my 3 month old daughter this weekend while my wife is at work. She usually sleeps while I watch for birds as they come through. However, this time of year living in south west Michigan has all kinds of different birds coming through at my feeders. Just posted on my blog today some great pictures of American Gold Finches. Check it out. http://www.backyardbirdparadise.com/backyard_birding_blog/2012/9/Morning_With_The_Gold_Finches
I’m taking my BirdLife Melbourne Photography group to Echuca/Moama on the border between Victoria and New South Wales where we’re having an early morning excursion to hopefully see Superb Parrots, followed by a cruise on wetlands at Barmah and then more relaxed birding along the Murray River on Saturday, then drier country birding on Sunday morning at Terrick Terrick National Park, so we’re hoping for lots of birds as it’s spring in southern Australia.
A sight that I truly would enjoy seeing in person. However, your shot makes a nice substitute.
I’m blessed to be in a beach house this weekend, watching plovers and other shorebirds from the deck. White-tailed kite and a Loggerhead shrike were new for me this year.
Stunning colours and a beautiful shot.
I just moved to Shanghai, so I’m pretty new to the birds of coastal China (pretty new to birding in general, actually!), but I’m heading out to sizable Century Park to see what birds brave the immense urbanity of Shanghai. I’ll report back after the weekend!
this is amazing…fields of gold.:p
I think I’m staying home. I’ve bin getting alot of hungry visitors. I live between a river & a golf course. the variety is amazing
I’ll probably be at Montrose Point in Chicago again, and hopefully I can also find a spare hour to photograph a secret heron rookery.
@Emelio: How awesome … do let us know what you find!
I thought I’d find earth as RED as downunder when I saw your thumbnail pic on the Skywatch site – but the flowers make it even more spectacular!! And not a bird in sight!!!
