During the year I will keep track of what birds we see, but we don’t know where we might go or what we may see! I will include all birds both here in Australia and also should we go overseas I will count those as well. I will record the date and location of the first time I see each species for the year.

For my Australian birds I will use the “Christidis and Boles 2008 key to species names” and list them in the order that they come on that list. For birds listed as “seen in Broome” the location covers an area that is no further than 70kms from the Broome Bird Observatory unless otherwise stated. For birds listed as “seen in Sydney” the location will also cover an area no further than 70kms from the City centre.

If there is a post that I have done that covers any of the species I will attach a link to it. For all my other posts you can click on Clare M.

Clare and her husband, Grant, have lived permanently in Broome, Western Australia since 1999 after living in various outback locations around Western Australia and Darwin. She has lived in the Middle East and the United States and traveled extensively in Europe. She monitors Pied Oystercatchers breeding along a 23km stretch of Broome's coastline by bicycle and on foot. She chooses not to participate in social media, but rather wander off into the bush for peace and tranquility. Thankfully she can write posts in advance and get away from technology!
