L’shanah tovah to everyone celebrating the beginning of a sweet new year. For everyone else, this is as good a time as any to look forward to another twelve months of health and happiness… and birds, obviously.
The only birds I had eyes for this week were the Cardinals, Ravens, and Seahawks that kicked off the first week of NFL football. The early Monday night game will feature a battle between Eagles and Falcons, so be sure to set up your scopes and snack bowls! Though Corey could have chosen any of a trio of grasspipers – Buff-breasted Sandpiper, Baird’s Sandpiper, or American Golden Plover – as his Best Bird of the Weekend he decided that he preferred his self-found rarity, a Yellow-breasted Chat at Jones Beach State Park. Now that’s a fun bird to see!
How about you? What was your best bird of the weekend? Tell us in the comments section about the rarest, loveliest, or most fascinating bird you observed. If you’ve blogged about your weekend experience, you should include a link in your comment.
I was hiking in the Olympic Mountains and stopped by a lake for lunch. An American Dipper flew in to land by the shore, dipped about in the shallow water, and sang its unusual song. Very special!
New Zealand Falcon zipping along being chased by Tui that couldn’t remotely keep up.
